I've owned the 4.2 engine twice, (2001 S8 & 2012 A8L) and thought the same thing from time-to-time. However, first I've concluded that cost would be insane to increase HP to a noticeable level. Second, why mess with what might be the best engine Audi has ever made based on reliability, refinement and power. It might not be the fastest engine.
