The Sony TV is Not Compatible. HBO Max may not be available on your Sony TV. HBO Max requires TVs to be operating Android OS 5 or later. This means that those that were manufactured before 2015 are not compatible with HBO Max. If your TV is a newer Sony TV, you might just need to update the firmware to run OS 5 or later.
It is connected to the internet and the preinstalled apps, like Netflix work. However, it will not install any apps (Spectrum, HBO MAX, HBO GO, Disney +). When I select "Install" it looks like it begins to install and displays a zero (0), like it is beginning. However it stays like that for a moment, then goes back to app info page.
Look for HBO Max using the search bar on the top-right corner. Click to install HBO Max from the search results. Complete Google Sign-in (if you skipped step 2) to install HBO Max. Click the HBO Max icon on the home screen to start using the app. There’s so much to explore on HBO Max that a smaller screen just doesn’t do justice to the content.

On my samsung tv i played the show on hbo max then went to my tv settings >sound>expert settings>Digital output audio format>dolby digital. Apparently you can only select dolby digital while an app is playing a video that supports it. Prior i had pcm selected and when outaide of the app the dolby option is greyed out.
